Suo borders Nagato to the north and west, Iwami to the north-east, and Aki to the east. This makes Suo a good staging ground to attack Kyushu from Honshu or vice versa. While Nagato is nominally closer to Kyushu island, Suo's capital is significantly closer. Its warhorse resource makes up for this somewhat, and its status as a port province combined with its proximity to trade nodes make it an excellent province to train trade ships from. Suo's barren soil prevents it from becoming a wealthy province. It was here, among the educated population, that Francis Xavier, the famed Jesuit missionary, found patronage and support for his attempts to convert the Japanese to Catholicism.
Under the Ouchi family, the capital Yamaguchi has become known as the Kyoto of the West due to its great cultural achievements, making it the unofficial second city of Japan. Lying at the westerly tip of Honshu, Suo has good transport and horse trading resources. Suo is a province in Total War: Shogun 2.
